Jaeger-LeCoultre Duometre Chronographe

The Jaeger LeCoultre Duemetre Chronographe is an ingenious machinery that immediately stands out when you put it around your wrist. The beautiful design with the grey and golden rose color combination goes together with the multiple dials and the belt. You can’t miss it. Priced at a little over $40,000, this is a perfect piece of engineering produced by Jaeger that you don’t want to miss in your collection.

When you first look at the Jaeger LeCoultre Duometre Chronographe, without a doubt the design is the most striking thing. The color combination between rose gold for the edge of the dial and the deep grey of the inside of the dial is what makes it look so elegant and chic. Grey is usually regarded as a man’s color and combined with the warmer rose gold, it creates a warm image that can be worn with any outfit.

Another very important thing about the Jaeger LeCoultre Duometre Chronographe is the way in which the dial is constructed. Obviously the start is a small tourbillon with its own name, located on the right of the dial and which dictates how the other small dials are moving. It is called the Sphérotourbillon and it contains a spherical hairspring that helps it make one full rotation in 30 seconds and another tilted rotation at 20 degrees in half that, so in 15 seconds.

The entire watch is made up of over 400 pieces and they all move together in perfect precision so watching how the watch works is beautiful. There are two main dials here: the one in the left shows the time like a regular watch does and the one in the left is a chronograph counter. Down at the bottom of the dial, there is a third one that describes the foudroyante, as it is originally named, or the flying seconds. This dial measures the stopped times, down to 1/6th of a second. Its design is a bit different from the other ones in the dial because it is skeletonized. In the right and the left side of this particular subdial, if you closely, you can see the two power reserves, which are both for 50 hours.

The Jaeger LeCoultre Duometre Chronographe is a beautiful machine that is worth every penny. All the dials move in perfect unison and immediately stand out wherever you are and no matter the outfit you are wearing.

Harry Winston Histoire De Tourbillon 7

If there is one thing one can say about Harry Winston’s Histoire de Tourbillon series, it is this: the models this company makes are off the charts and immediately recognizable. At the same time, few can say that they have the opportunity to wear one, considering the fact that the latest model, the Histoire the Tourbillon 6 costs more than $700,000.

Histoire de Tourbillon 7 sets itself apart from the previous model through the more simplistic functions it comes with. While the 6th model numbered 700 components, the latest model comes with a little over 500 components and more than 80 jewels. It is a stunning thing to see: one big dial that displays the hours, huge dimensions (the 7th model is well over 40 millimeters wide and over 8 millimeters thick) and of course, la piece de resistance: the two tourbillons the whole watch works on which can easily be seen through the glass of the dial.

But let’s take things bit by bit. First of all, the watch comes with one dial, which was designed to give you all the information you need when it comes to time. It displays the hours and at the top of the dial, where the number ‘12’ should be, it is replaced by a crown and the letter H, which is a symbol of the company, Harry Winston.

Second of all, the two tourbillons are the key piece of this model. Like its predecessor, Histoire de Tourbillon 7 contains two tourbillons which show the movement mechanism of the watch. They slowly rotate and provide power to the hands of the dial, moving it as time passes. The two tourbillons are caught up in two different cages and they do not move at the same time, which makes their movement even more interesting to watch. This type of mechanism has defined the Histoire de Tourbillon series.

Third and last, another very useful feature this watch comes with is the rolling system down at the bottom of the dial, where the remaining power is displayed. It is worth noting that the watch comes with an 80-hour power reserve. The rolling system displays the number of hours the watch still has left before it runs out of power.

All in all, the Histoire de Tourbillon 7 is a marvelous piece worth every penny. The functions it comes with, coupled with the unique looks are perfect for all watch lovers out there.

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Supersonnerie

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Supersonnerie is the brand’s second watch that focuses on the sound quality enhanced by the sonnerie complication. This minute repeater of superior acoustic intensity offers an extremely clear and constant tone. The watch is unique on the market, it is a novelty that was created for those who appreciate innovation and refinement, a stunning gadget that preserves AP’s classic look and sophistication.

Sound quality and clarity are the main focus for the Royal Oak Concept Supersonnerie timepiece. On most traditional watches, a background whirring is heard when a minute repeater strikes. The component that makes this sound is known as the governor and functions continuously during the chiming process. The particular thing about this watch is that the governor is completely silent; thus it doesn’t distract you from the chimes. I guess we could say that Audemars Piguet is very keen on offering the watch with the perfect sound as when developing the Concept Supersonnerie timepiece the company filled three patents.

The brand’s chiming watches sound study program started in 2006 and it was begun in collaboration with the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. Its passionate team of watchmakers, engineers, artisans, academics and technicians was sustained by serious investments in sound-measurement facilities. For obtaining a decent level of water resistance it is necessary to use a robust casing which causes substantial noise diffusion. This is the reason why the company had to make some major adjustment to the watch’s construction so that it reduced the degree of noise generated by the case. The result was a titanium timepiece that is water resistant to a depth of just 20 meters.

Audemars Piguet was very dedicated to this project. It even asked for the professional opinion of an “an esteemed academic of the Geneva conservatory” regarding the noise made by the watch. Before releasing the Royal Oak Concept Supersonnerie, the brand wanted to be sure that the sound was both clear and pleasing to the ear. The case of the timepiece is manufactured from titanium because this special type of alloy has a lower density than platinum or gold which makes it possible for the sound to travel through its walls with much less resistance.

Such a special and unique watch needs an equally impressive movement so at the inside of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Supersonnerie we find a manual manufacture movement, known as the Calibre 2937. This high end hand-wound mechanism has only a 8.28 mm width. The manual movement has 43 jewels, operates at a steady 21,600vph, includes 478 parts and offers at least 42 hours power reserve.

The titanium case is stunningly complemented by a black ceramic screw-locked crown and two titanium and black ceramic buttons that coordinate the tourbillon and minute repeater complications. But there is more to this watch than the revolutionary sonnerie. The Royal Oak Concept Supersonnerie comes with a tourbillon chronograph that features central sweep seconds hand and a 30 minutes sub-dial located at 3 o’clock. A beautiful double ended hand which rotates around its central axis indicates the minutes. To read this special minute hand you use the colored tips that match the text on the dial. The watch is available with a black rubber strap which sports a folding titanium clasp.

The unique aesthetics and innovations offered by the Supersonnerie timepiece set this model as a high end product created for those who appreciate unique novelties. This is also the reason why the watch is priced at $597,400, a price that turns it into an exclusive luxury item.

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept Supersonnerie is an extremely precise and elegant timepiece with a sophisticated acoustic. Its unprecedented sound performances, incredibly refined harmonic tone and clear acoustic turns it from a traditional looking wrist watch into a modern minute repeater timepiece.
