Issued in a limited edition of 1000 items on the occasion of SIHH 2011, Panerai Luminor 8-Days left-handed watch (ref. PAM00368) continues a tradition started by the Florentine watch making house in 1940. While this type of watches can be originally explained as a practical solution for divers who had to wear sophisticated equipment (compass, deapth measuring device, etc.) on their wrist, they are nowadays just a comfortable choice for those who prefer to wear their watch on the left hand.
The splendid brushed titanium case bears the classic Panerai format and its sapphire crystal back offers an impressive view over the P.2002 / 9 mechanical manual movement. At the same time, it enables wearers to check the remaining power reserve. The clasp that closes the old brown leather strap is also made of brushed titanium – a material that has been especially chosen for its lightness, strength and antiallergic properties.
The brown sandwich dial (made up of two superimposed plates incorporating the phosphor which forms the indexes and numbers) is another traditional element, historically justified by the need to optimize the watch’s readability for diving purposes. The small seconds subdial situated at 3 o’clock gives the aesthetic balance of the watch, while the bridge protecting the winding crown placed on its left side adds a touch of style.
In point of design, the model is featured simplicity and undeniable elegance. The three Superluminova covered hands perfectly match the “Luminor Panerai” inscription at 12 o’clock and the “8 DAYS” one recalling the movement’s long power reserve. Designed and built entirely in the Officine Panerai manufacture in Neuchâtel, this hand-wound caliber is equipped with three barrels that offer a power reserve of eight days. The movement is visible on the rear and the second reset function allows perfect synchronization with a reference clock signal.
