nice..too bad it's 250 KB
So, you have beautiful graphics, wonderful layout, lots of nice java applets and scripts, and everything else about your page is great. But, people still don't come to it! Why not?? Well, the fact that it is 250 kilobytes might be one *small* reason. I do the same thing as most people I know, if a page takes too long to load, I leave.
a few limitations
Reducing the size of your page can be easy, or hard. If you have a bunch of extra graphics, javascripts, and the like, you can simply remove them. Sure, it makes the page uglier, but it loads faster - which is much more important. Always try to keep your pages under 85 KB, no matter what they are about. Sure, you can have a few exceptions, just don't have too many.
reduce that thing, NOW!!!
Reducing the size of a page that is fairly small and simple is easy. Just cut-down on the JPG quality, take off the extra graphics, and above all, REMOVE THOSE FREAKING JAVA-APPLETS! If your page is large and complex, reducing the size might be a little bit harder. Try taking out some of the "extra" things on your page. Add more text and special tables to make up for the loss of other things.
above all, keep it small!
Really, it is not that hard to reduce your page's file size. Just don't go over board with graphics and java. Keep in mind that all pages should at least be under 85 KB when designing your sites. Also remember that the HTML code itself takes up virtually nothing, whereas, one small graphic can turn out to be 15 KB.
