Christophe Claret is famous for creating some of the most exotic luxury watches with a unique high-end design and spectacular experimental complications. One of its best timepieces that were created especially for stimulating the world of artfully constructed watches is the X-Trem-1. This model has been produced in an 8-piece limited series and the “X-Trem” part of its name stands for “Experimental Time Research Engineering Mechanism.” Impressive, isn’t it? Just like everything else that the brand has created and launched for the past few years.
This highly exclusivist luxury watch is more than just an extreme time keeping device. It is an extravagant and extraordinary art piece that fascinates both visually and technically. Believe it or not, this watch uses magnets. Yes, magnets even though these are the hugest enemy of mechanical watches. But nothing can stand in the way of an X-TREM-1 watch so magnets are basically used for moving the steel balls from the inside of the sapphire crystal tubes up and down for showing the hours and minutes.
The planetary nebula is actually the inspiration for the X-TREM-1’s indication system. Experts claim that the magnetic force is the one that has created and sustains some of the most beautiful and largest formations in the universe: the planetary nebulae. Supposedly, the stellar evolution generates magnetic fields that can survive for billions of years and take the shape of a stellar butterfly.
The Christophe Claret X-TREM-1 is the first timepiece from a new and intriguing generation of smartly innovating devices. This is not just a beautifully complicated watch, but also an important aesthetic ad technical accomplishment in the world of extraordinary timepieces. The model comes with a flying tourbillon lop-sided at a 30° angle, anchored on a 3D curvex titanium piece, featuring a retrograde minutes and hours display system that is completely distinct than everything else ever available on a watch. Two very small empty steel spheres, each encapsulated by a sapphire tube located on every side of the caseband are moved up and down by magnetic fields as to indicate the hour and minutes.
The Christophe Claret X-TREM-1 comes with a wonderfully complex mechanical hand-wound mechanism that features an impressive number of 419 components and 64 jewels. The movement is double barreled- one of the barrels is for the time indications and the other one for the movement gear train. Furthermore, it has a Swiss lever-type escapement of 3 Hz (21’600 vph) and a 50 hours power reserve.
Its most distinctive functional features are the use of extremely precise magnetic fields within a high end mechanical movement, plus the lack of mechanical correlations between the mechanism and the indications.
The X-TREM-1 comes with a 40 mm diameter case manufactured from Platinum and black PVD-treated grade 5 titanium. This exquisitely crafted case is so well sealed that it is able to protect the watch from water damage even at a depth of 30 meters.
One of the most extreme and rare luxury timepieces on the market is the Christophe Claret X-TREM-1. This unique watch was designed to fascinate the masses and bring joy only to 8 lucky watch collectors that were so fortunate as to get their hands on one of these limited edition pieces.
