Ulysse Nardin Limited Edition Hourstriker Pin-Up

by

What is the first thing that you see when you take a look at the Ulysses Nardin Limited Edition Hourstriker PinUp? The beautiful burlesque dancer whose body is covered by the peacocks and the gold and sapphires encrusted dial. The design makes the watch stand out but not in a trashy way. It’s not too flashy or sparkly but it does draw the attention to it. What makes it special though besides the design? Here are some interesting facts about it:

The case and the strap both go together perfectly. The case itself is made up of 18 carat rose gold and it is complimented by the black leather strap. The leather strap has the usual design resembling a tire but together with the rose gold case, it creates a beautiful elegant overall design that can be worn with any kind of outfit and still stand out without looking out of place.

Another interesting detail present on the case is the Ulysse Nardin logo at the top of the case. Down at the bottom of it the words “Swiss Made” are also written in gold. This signifies that the watch is high quality since, as we all know, the Swiss have quite the reputation when it comes to designing watches.

One of the key elements of the new Ulysse Nardin Limited Edition Hourstriker PinUp is the burlesque dancer whose body is covered by the peacock. The most unique function of this watch is that when the clock strikes a certain hour, the peacock’s feathers move away, revealing the dancer’s naked body. It is an interesting an edition to an otherwise unique and elegant watch. Not many companies would go as far as drawing a dancer’s naked body in the case of the watch, but it is certainly a nice addition that will keep the buyers on their toes.

The hourstrike function basically takes place whenever the owner of the watch engages the pusher or every hour and half hour. The figurine of the burlesque dancer is handpainted, a process that is painstakingly long. It is estimated that it took over 80 hours to complete, thus showing the dedication of the watchmakers.

The Ulysse Nardin Limited Edition Hourstriker PinUp is unique not just thanks to the burlesque dancer and the hourstriker function, but also because only 28 of these wonderful watches will be made and sold. So if you want one hurry up!

Piaget Emperador Coussin XL 700P

by

In order to properly describe the new Piaget Emperador Coussin XL 700P, you need to know what a “Spring Drive” is first. A “Spring Drive” is defined as a mechanism that was first created by Seiko Epson, a Japanese engineer, whose purpose is to develop a hand that tracks the sweeping seconds that passed, as opposed to the traditional hand that only tracks minutes. The Piaget Emperador Coussin XL 700P perfectly embodies this technology, which is what makes it stand out on the market, while also bringing some new elements to the table that make this watch unique.

The Piaget Emperador Coussin XL 700P is a hybrid model between a quartz watch and a mechanical one. Here is the difference between the two:

  • A quartz watch is reliable, requires very little to no maintenance and it is powered by a battery. It is the most common type of watch on the market but for watch enthusiasts and collectors, it is not that sought-after because it has few moving pieces. It is a simple mechanism that has been around for some time and requires little craftsmanship, only a basic understanding of the mechanism.
  • A mechanical watch is a more complex version of a quartz watch that involves a lot of precision, craftsmanship and is a lot more popular among watch connoisseurs. It involves a lot of moving parts and it is a wonder to watch.

The Piaget Emperador Coussin XL 700P is a hybrid between the two because it makes use of both systems. A typical watch that comes with a Spring Drive movement has 8 revolutions per second and in the case of a 700P version, we are talking about a 5.33 revolutions per second. It has no battery, but it is very accurate in telling the time, so the disadvantage of the battery is eliminated from the start.

Seiko, the Japanese company that first developed the concept of a Spring Drive movement was the first one to do so and therefore they define the movement. Piaget’s model used the same basic concept, but added small changes to make this model into a luxury watch rather than a typical watch that is designed for everyday use.

In short, it is, as mentioned above, a luxurious hybrid between a quartz watch and a mechanical watch, bringing the advantages of both worlds into one watch.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Duometre Chronographe

The Jaeger LeCoultre Duemetre Chronographe is an ingenious machinery that immediately stands out when you put it around your wrist. The beautiful design with the grey and golden rose color combination goes together with the multiple dials and the belt. You can’t miss it. Priced at a little over $40,000, this is a perfect piece of engineering produced by Jaeger that you don’t want to miss in your collection.

When you first look at the Jaeger LeCoultre Duometre Chronographe, without a doubt the design is the most striking thing. The color combination between rose gold for the edge of the dial and the deep grey of the inside of the dial is what makes it look so elegant and chic. Grey is usually regarded as a man’s color and combined with the warmer rose gold, it creates a warm image that can be worn with any outfit.

Another very important thing about the Jaeger LeCoultre Duometre Chronographe is the way in which the dial is constructed. Obviously the start is a small tourbillon with its own name, located on the right of the dial and which dictates how the other small dials are moving. It is called the Sphérotourbillon and it contains a spherical hairspring that helps it make one full rotation in 30 seconds and another tilted rotation at 20 degrees in half that, so in 15 seconds.

The entire watch is made up of over 400 pieces and they all move together in perfect precision so watching how the watch works is beautiful. There are two main dials here: the one in the left shows the time like a regular watch does and the one in the left is a chronograph counter. Down at the bottom of the dial, there is a third one that describes the foudroyante, as it is originally named, or the flying seconds. This dial measures the stopped times, down to 1/6th of a second. Its design is a bit different from the other ones in the dial because it is skeletonized. In the right and the left side of this particular subdial, if you closely, you can see the two power reserves, which are both for 50 hours.

The Jaeger LeCoultre Duometre Chronographe is a beautiful machine that is worth every penny. All the dials move in perfect unison and immediately stand out wherever you are and no matter the outfit you are wearing.

Omega Speedmaster

by

First launched in 1957, the Omega Speedmaster was one of the most appreciated timepieces by those with a fine taste in motorsports and rallies. The main reasons for this were its bold design and chronograph performances. It is a well-known thing that the dial of the watch was inspired by the dashboard of Italian automobiles. Almost a decade before the Speedmaster became famous for its association with space missions, it was acknowledged by the entire watch industry as a superior chronograph with unparalleled aesthetic qualities.

The most noteworthy thing about the Speedmaster is the fact that it was the first chronograph watch ever that repositioned the tachymetric scale from the dial to the bezel.  This very important difference was just the innovation that Omega needed in order to transform its Speedmaster line into a memorable one. This change made it easier for the wearer to read elapsed time. Especially racing drivers found this improvement very useful.

So the fame of the Omega Speedmaster begun long before it was worn at the North or South Poles or on the Moon. This timeless instrument was adorning the wrists of professional race drivers a long way back, setting the foundations of Omega’s legacy.

One of the most unique variations of the classic Omega Speedmaster is called Racing. The Speedmaster Racing series includes outstanding chronograph watches that measure 40 mm in case diameter and feature a sleek matte black aluminum tachymetric ring on the bezel. The brand also offers this model with a grey/yellow, grey or grey red tachymetric scaling. Its solid stainless steel case is sturdy and fiercely constructed as to emphasize masculinity and durability. On the stunning screw-in case back there is the distinctive Seahorse emblem.

The ingenuity and authenticity of the original Speedmaster design is preserved on the new Racing line by offering the dial and sub-dials in a combination of colors that are reminiscent for the Speedmaster, but somehow these watches have a particular chromatic innovation that complete its identity. One of its most notable features are the 30-minutes and 12-hours counters and the small seconds hand sub-dial which are printed with a triangular “Clou de Paris” pattern. To offer maximum functionality, the Speedmaster Racing comes with a date window at 6 o’clock and the very durable luminescent material called Super-LumiNova is used to coat the hour markers as well as the hour and minutes hands.

The truth is that all Speedmaster models are inspired by the world of racing, but the Speedmaster Racing collection brings a more extravagant touch to the traditional black and white Speemaster look. The newer and super modern chromatics includes vivid colors like yellow, red, blue and silver. The secret is to combine the classic dial layout with contemporary textures and elements.

At the heart of the Speedmaster Racing beats a spectacular automatic mechanism developed and produced entirely by Omega. This very precise self-winding mechanical movement is known as the Omega calibre 9330 which is fitted with a Co-Axial escapement, a column-wheel chronograph mechanism and a Si14 silicon balance spring. The technical and functional performances of this chronograph movement are truly impressive providing superior precision and stability. The Racing models were constructed to endure water pressure associated with depths of 100 meters/330 feet. Also, this sporty model is offered with either a black rubber strap or a stainless steel bracelet.

Basically, the new Omega Speedmaster Racing line doesn’t surprise us just with its aesthetic upgrades, but it manages to take our breath away with a state of the art movement that has been created as a middle path between a completely in-house made Omega calibre as the 9300 and a base ETA mechanism.

Omega has played with the Speedmaster dial countless times before, but the Racing series brings by far the most interesting and fun innovations. Its casual and youthful aesthetics are incredibly appealing to the modern watches enthusiasts who want to find the perfect balance between design and functionality.

Gold Cartier Ballon Bleu

by

Cartier Ballon Bleu is the type of round watch that has a very fascinating and complex design. Its intriguing shape and weightless construction create a beautiful balance between femininity and masculinity. It appeals both our style and functionality needs with its effortless elegant look, amazing precision and versatility.

Apparently simple, the design of the Cartier Ballon Bleu surprises with rich and luxurious details. The most exquisite aesthetic touch is the sapphire cabochon which decorates the winding mechanism. Due to the sleek and refined precious metal protective arch, the blue stone looks like it is the gravitation center for the entire dial.

Like a skilled artisan, Cartier has constructed this extraordinary timepiece by using soft curves, rounded shapes and a charming mix of classic and contemporary influences. The layout of the Roman numerals is a futuristic distortion of the concept of time whereas the sapphire crystal magnifies the dial with a pinch of retro sophistication.

The name itself- Ballon Bleu- is reminiscent for a new horological dimension, one where diffracted roundness, elliptical profile and the extra-blue winding mechanism merge together in one of the most beautiful interpretations of a luxury time keeping device.  The construction of this watch represents a true work of art. Crafted from solid gold, the Cartier Ballon Bleu features a varnished silver opaline dial complemented by elegant black Roman numerals. The rounded layout of the dial is disrupted by the addition of a small date window at the 3 o’clock position. Cartier watches are notorious for their blue hands that look exquisite over the wavy patterned dial. The Ballon Bleu is no exception. The timepiece features the same slim sleek blue steel sword-shaped hands that sweep elegantly around the face of the watch. Authentic Cartier watch price is somewhere around 5,000 USD, although some exquisite models cost well over $25,000. Some people can be tempted to buy Cartier replica watch. Listen to my advice… just don’t!

The Cartier Ballon Bleu comes only in full gold version. The case, the bracelet and the clasp are manufactured from yellow or white gold which accentuates the preciosity of this wonderful design. This is also the reason why this model is so expensive and exclusivist. It represents a considerably rare timepiece that is usually custom made for some of the wealthiest people on the planet.

Cartier has chosen to construct the Ballon Bleu with a very precise and durable automatic mechanism. The watch is powered by an in-house Cartier Calibre 049 automatic movement that contributes to the finesse and exquisite feel of the timepiece. To protect this expensive and artfully crafted automatic movement, the brand has developed a very complex water proofed casing system that offers resistance up to a depth of 100 meters.

Explore the art of fine watchmaking with the extraordinary Cartier Ballon Bleu. A surprising design that floats like a balloon and hides at its side a blue and charming sapphire jewel, enriching your style with a dash of elegance and sophistication.

The Ulysse Nardin Grand Deck Tourbillon is a gorgeous piece that will surely make people stare wherever you go. Although the original price intended for it was well over $200,000, the craftsmanship involved in its design and the unique mechanisms truly make this piece one of a kind. Here are some of its greatest features:

  1. The traveler / boating design

One of the first things everybody notices when first laying eyes on the Ulysse Nardin Grand Deck is its design. Full of sea travelling and boating elements such as the anchors placed on the upper and the bottom of the watch dial, the thread system, the blue minute dials in the bottom part which remind the user of winches, which are metal spoon-like instruments used to crank up the sails and more, this beautiful piece truly encompasses what Ulysse Nardin was: a man who loved travelling. His passion for the ocean and the sea was equaled only by his love for watches. The Ulysse Nardin Grand Deck was designed as an homage to the creator of the company.

  1. The system used to change hour

There are two ways of changing the hour on the new Ulysse Nardin Grand Deck Tourbillon. The first one, also the most interesting one is the one involving the intricate thread system designed to lift the navy blue jumping hour hand. By twisting a button located on the right side of the watch dial, the thread system slowly pulls the jumping hour hand to the right and when released, the small dial located on the upper side of the watch will now show a different hour. This is the perfect system to change the hour back or forth if you are travelling a lot. However, if you believe this is difficult and time consuming if you are travelling in time zones with 5-6-hour difference, you can always choose the second option. On the right side of the main dial, you will find a button. Every time you press it, the hour will change. This is a much easier option and convenient manner of changing the hour, but the first one is definitely unique.

Interesting and unique are but two of the words that describe this masterpiece. The Ulysse Nardin Grand Deck Tourbillon is one of a kind and is a must own piece for all boat enthusiasts out there.

The Luminor 1950 Tourbillion is one of the most unique watches on the market. Built as an homage to Galileo Galilei, one of the most important figures in the history of the human kind, this watch shows not only the time, but also comes with multiple functions such as the power reserve indicator on the back and more. This is by far however, the least innovative thing about this model.

  1. Direct Metal Laser Sintering

This new technology was built with the purpose of reducing the weight of the case. We all know how much weight can influence a watch, which is why the Luminor 1950 was built using a 3D printer. The printer used powdered titanium and created layers of 0.02 millimeters each. Then, each layer was placed on top of each other, thus developing the structure you see now. This makes the entire watch much lighter and much easier to be carrier around. According to the official website, the new Luminor 1950 is around 35% lighter than previous models.

  1. The Skeletonized Look

One of the most interesting things about the Luminor 1950 is the skeletonized look which allows the user to see the mechanism behind the watch. No longer is the principle behind the watch hidden, everything is presented clearly and without any covers. The look also contributes to the light weight of the watch because the skeletonized pieces are no longer as heavy as in previous models. On top of that, the look is also rather unique.

  1. The Alligator Strap

The Alligator Strap is a great addition to this model because it perfectly complements the titanium pieces of the watch, while also being resistant to time. The official instructions recommend that you wash the strap and leave it somewhere to dry, but not on hot surfaces or in direct sun-rays because they may damage the straps. They must be left to dry for long periods of time, on their own, in order for the strap to last for a very long time.

On top of all these great new additions, the Luminor 1950 is water resistant, it comes with many functions that make it unique and it comes with a night view functions that makes the Arabic numbers stand out in a luminescent manner so that the numbers are easier to read in the dark. The Luminor 1950 is more than a fancy watch, it is an innovation, one that is bound to last for years to come.

Choosing The Right Wrist Watch

by

A wrist watch is a very important piece of accessory, especially for men. If you want to choose a wrist watch, there are some tips you should follow because it’s really important to keep some aspects in mind, especially if you want to wear it for a long time.

Choosing a color – If you are not the type of guy who likes dressing the same, perhaps a watch with a neutral color is the perfect decision. This is great because it can be combined with all your outfits. Also, if you are a sporty person, just buy a sports watch and don’t go for the classic styles because you will barely wear them.

Bracelet or leather – it’s good to get both and if the store can offer a deal on them it’s recommended to get something you can change according to different circumstances. For example, wearing a bracelet on rainy weather can ruin it but you can change your bracelet with your leather trip under these circumstances. Also, if you want your watch to look more casual you can choose the bracelet or the leather band if you wish for a more classic look.

Go for automatic mechanism – even if the watch is extremely beautiful, it might not be convenient if it doesn’t have an automatic mechanism. An automatic mechanism makes your watch much more reliable and also more durable.  Also, if it’s a really expensive watch and you get bored with it, you can resale it at a much better price because most people prefer an automatic mechanism.

Practicability and functions – if you find yourself in the position to choose between a nice looking watch and one that has a lot of functions, it is recommended to choose the latter. You will benefit from a lot of functions such as calendar, temperature, or even altitude and that’s what a good watch is supposed to do, make your life easier. As opposite to minimalist watches, the watches with a lot of functions also look amazing so there’s not much to decide about when it comes to choosing between something that looks really good and something very practical.

Harry Winston Histoire De Tourbillon 7

by

If there is one thing one can say about Harry Winston’s Histoire de Tourbillon series, it is this: the models this company makes are off the charts and immediately recognizable. At the same time, few can say that they have the opportunity to wear one, considering the fact that the latest model, the Histoire the Tourbillon 6 costs more than $700,000.

Histoire de Tourbillon 7 sets itself apart from the previous model through the more simplistic functions it comes with. While the 6th model numbered 700 components, the latest model comes with a little over 500 components and more than 80 jewels. It is a stunning thing to see: one big dial that displays the hours, huge dimensions (the 7th model is well over 40 millimeters wide and over 8 millimeters thick) and of course, la piece de resistance: the two tourbillons the whole watch works on which can easily be seen through the glass of the dial.

But let’s take things bit by bit. First of all, the watch comes with one dial, which was designed to give you all the information you need when it comes to time. It displays the hours and at the top of the dial, where the number ‘12’ should be, it is replaced by a crown and the letter H, which is a symbol of the company, Harry Winston.

Second of all, the two tourbillons are the key piece of this model. Like its predecessor, Histoire de Tourbillon 7 contains two tourbillons which show the movement mechanism of the watch. They slowly rotate and provide power to the hands of the dial, moving it as time passes. The two tourbillons are caught up in two different cages and they do not move at the same time, which makes their movement even more interesting to watch. This type of mechanism has defined the Histoire de Tourbillon series.

Third and last, another very useful feature this watch comes with is the rolling system down at the bottom of the dial, where the remaining power is displayed. It is worth noting that the watch comes with an 80-hour power reserve. The rolling system displays the number of hours the watch still has left before it runs out of power.

All in all, the Histoire de Tourbillon 7 is a marvelous piece worth every penny. The functions it comes with, coupled with the unique looks are perfect for all watch lovers out there.
